Congratulations to LEAD Academy students Angel Flores ‘20, Jeri Lopez ‘21, Justin Martinez ‘20 and José Padrón ‘19 for their award-winning “My Hispanic Roots, My American Dream” essays recognized by Conexión Americas as part of the organization’s 2017 Young Latino Writers Essay Contest.

The essay contest was open to all Hispanic students across Nashville and ran in concert with Hispanic Heritage month from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The winners were announced Thursday at a special luncheon.

  • Angel Flores won the grand prize: a laptop
  • Jeri Lopez won second prize: $100
  • Justin Martinez and José Padrón won honorable mentions and $25.
