LEAD Academy High School Transitions Principal

There are changes coming to LEAD Academy High School. After five years serving as LEAD Academy’s principal, Nic Frank is moving into a network leadership role at the end of this school year and LEAD Academy will welcome a new principal. In a continuation of Nic’s professional development, he will report to Dwayne Tucker and work on several leadership development and talent calibration projects for the network and be part of the Network Leadership Team.

“Nic let me know about a year ago that he would welcome the opportunity to learn and grow in new ways if we could find the right person to take over the principal role at LEAD Academy,” said LaVoe Mulgrew, head of schools for MNPS schools.

Nic began as an exceptional education teacher during LEAD’s second year in existence and served in many roles including as LAHS principal for five years, LEAD Middle principal for two years as well as the network Director of Exception Education.

LEAD Academy’s reputation for excellence directly reflects Nic’s leadership. During his time as LAHS Principal, LEAD Academy was a reward school for growth, a level 5 TVAAS school numerous times and graduated five classes of seniors, many of whom went on to four-year colleges.

Dr. Tony MajorsNic will continue to serve in the principal role committed to the students, families and staff of LEAD Academy High School for the remainder of this school year, while helping to prepare the new principal, Dr. Tony Majors, to take the helm of LEAD Academy and report to MNPS Head of Schools LaVoe Mulgrew.

Dr. Majors brings more than 25 years of excellence in education. Known as a visionary leader with a deep commitment to strategy development and systems integration, he previously served as a teacher, coach, high school principal, executive officer, and Assistant Superintendent.

“Tony has a proven track record of working with students from this neighborhood,” said Mulgrew. “He has the perfect combination of experience and understanding to ensure the students of LEAD Academy are ready for college and life.”

Dr. Majors led Metro Nashville Public School’s focus on school climate reform, expanding mental and health services, the expansion of social and emotional learning, safety and security upgrades, and the development of special populations protocols to ensure quality educational services and opportunities were provided to students facing significant emotional, health, and/or life challenges.

As principal of Glencliff High School, he led the school to a National Community School of Excellence Award and a GRAMMY Foundation award. He was personally recognized as Principal of the Year and Academy Principal of the Year.

Throughout his career, Dr. Majors has prioritized the importance of establishing and maintaining a positive culture in schools to support and benefit all stakeholders. He strives to be an innovator who values new ideas, approaches and partnerships as a means of improving outcomes for students, families and communities.

He embodies the LEAD Ethos in his belief that educational leaders must have a vision for success and engage others in the attainment of that vision while building the systems and processes that enhance the individual and collective talent of all stakeholders.

Dr. Majors has much to offer the students and families of LEAD Academy and we look forward to having him serve as principal and to seeing Frank grow in his skills as he leads leadership development at the network.
