LEAD Public Schools Announce Reopening Schedule

Metro Nashville Public Schools announced on February 1 that students in MNPS schools will begin returning to classrooms over the next few weeks. At LEAD, we have decided to follow a slightly different schedule than MNPS and seek to explain our process and decision.

On January 15, we committed to you to provide state mandated, in-person ACCESS testing for English Language Learners (ELLs) in our schools between February 1 – 26. Each school created detailed plans to ensure the ELL students and staff could return safely and efficiently to complete this testing. We will honor that commitment.

We began testing at Cameron Middle School on February 1 and happily report everything went well with student participation and full compliance of our safety protocols. At LEAD, we will not return to in-person instruction until we have completed ACCESS testing across the Network.

We are taking the following steps:

  • Beginning February 5, families that previously selected to remain in virtual learning will be contacted through Talking Points to confirm their decision. If your family previously elected to return to in-person learning, we assume that remains your decision.
  • The students in special day school will follow MNPS’ schedule and return February 9.
  • We decided to welcome students in Life Skills classes back to campus beginning February 16 and will communicate directly with those families regarding the steps to safely return to our schools.
  • Thursday, March 4: ONLY the 5th grade students who have chosen to return to in-person learning report to campus.
  • Friday, March 5: The 6th-8th grade students who have chosen to return to in-person learning report to their campus.
  • March 9-12 (Tuesday – Friday): All high school students have asynchronous learning while teachers return to the building to prepare for students’ return. (Asynchronous also means teachers are holding office hours for students who need additional support)
  • Monday, March 22 (Monday after spring break): All high school students who have chosen to return to in-person learning return to campus.

Students remaining in virtual learning will continue to learn remotely.

School principals will follow up with additional information regarding transportation, uniforms and other information related to the safe and effective return to campus. We are committed to provide a safe and effective learning environment for LEAD students, families and staff.
