LEAD Southeast High School Celebrates First Graduating Class

LEAD Southeast High School graduates its first senior class in May 2021. The 54 seniors impress for a variety of reasons – from their diverse backgrounds to their commitment to their education.

Aisha Sajo is one of the many of the seniors who started their educational journey with LEAD Southeast in 5th grade. Eight years learning together in a small group created a bond between them.

“Being part of the first graduating class is an honor and I am very excited!” Sajo said. “I would tell future students at LSEH to make the most out of their experiences. High School isn’t always going to be easy, but looking back, it’s the happy moments that stay with you.”

Sajo plans to attend college and pursue a field in technology.

“The first class is always special!” said LEAD Southeast High School Principal Amy Kate Wilkins. “Our seniors have a personality of their own and it’s been a joy to see the development of that over their four years of high school.”

LEAD Southeast High’s senior class represent countries from around the world and speak 16 different languages. Many overcome language barriers through hard work and commitment.

“Our senior Lobos are committed! Commitment to their families, their communities and, most inspiring, a commitment to themselves,” Wilkins said. “Getting to this point in their education career is no small feat but they have let their dreams and aspirations fuel their paths.  It will be a joy to see that come to fruition in just a few short months!”

Despite the pandemic and learning remotely for their senior year, the students persevere and prepare  for college. Most have already applied and been accepted into 4-year colleges and universities, filed their FAFSA, and completed their Tennessee Promise Scholarship applications. More than half of them will be the first in their family to attend college.

In May 2021, we’ll celebrate each of their accomplishments and next steps during LEAD’s annual Senior Signing Day.
