Two LEAD Schools Named Reward Schools for Progress
We are excited to announce today that LEAD Cameron and LEAD Southeast Middle School have been named 2017 Reward Schools for Progress by the state Department of Education. The schools are two of only six in Davidson County to earn this distinction, which recognizes the top 5 percent of schools with the highest progress in the state.
“Congratulations to our students, families, staff members and leadership teams at Cameron and Southeast for achieving Reward School recognition,” said Interim CEO Dwayne Tucker. “This is well-earned, and it is an impressive achievement that reflects the leadership, talent, high standards and unwavering commitment to excellence exemplified by our staff and students.”
The state recognized 169 schools across the state today, 85 of them for progress. In Davidson County, 14 schools in total earned a Reward School designation: four for performance, six for progress and four for both.
LEAD Cameron, founded in 2011 as Cameron College Prep, is the first successful turnaround school in partnership with Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in the history of the state. A zoned enrollment school in South Nashville that serves the needs of more than 600 students, Cameron was last a Reward School for growth in 2014.
This is the second consecutive status for LEAD Southeast, which serves the needs of more than 500 students in grades 5-8 in Antioch. Founded as LEAD Prep Southeast in 2013, the middle school was also named a Reward School for growth in 2015 (there was no data in 2016).
Including LEAD Academy in 2015, LEAD has had a school on the Reward School list each year since 2014, a testament to our ongoing mission of preparing all of our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be ready for college and ready for life.
