LEAD Public Schools Celebrates Class of 2020 in First-Ever Virtual Senior Signing Day
Senior Signing Day is the culmination of an emotional and inspirational journey for LEAD seniors as they reveal their next step to family and friends.
On Thursday, May 14th, LEAD Academy seniors announced their college choices to their fellow students, alumni, teachers, family members, and supporters from across the Nashville community in a virtual ceremony on Facebook Live.
Senior Signing Day spotlights ALL seniors, not just athletes, many of whom have overcome great obstacles and are first-generation college attendees, by celebrating their hard work over the last four years to be ready for college and ready for life. Each student participated in an intensive college seminar to determine the college, university, or career pathway that is the best fit for them. At LEAD, it’s tradition to keep your final college or career choice a secret until Senior Signing Day each year.
This year, hundreds of people watched the ceremony Live on Facebook as seniors and teachers reflected on the Class of 2020’s high school journey and students announced their next step in life.
“We are so proud of the Class of 2020 and today was a wonderful celebration of their high school journey,” said LEAD Public Schools CEO Dwayne Tucker. “While COVID-19 prevented us from gathering together, the community showed their outpouring of support for the Class of 2020 in an impressive way online.”
LEAD’s Class of 2020 seniors submitted 642 college applications, averaging nine applications per student, and earned more than $2.5 million in scholarships.
