LEAD Celebrates Class of 2019 with annual Senior Signing Day
Seniors from LEAD Academy High School celebrated Signing Day today with 2,500 LEAD students, alumni, teachers, family members and supporters from the community gathered at the Belmont Curb Event Center.
Senior Signing Day spotlights ALL seniors, not just athletes, many of whom have overcome great obstacles and are first-generation college attendees, by celebrating their hard work over the last four years to be ready for college and ready for life. Each student participates in an intensive college seminar to determine the college, university, or career pathway they will pursue.
“We are so proud of each of our seniors— they have worked really hard to get to this day and to make this decision about what’s next,” said LEAD Public Schools CEO Dwayne Tucker. “Every single day, our focus at LEAD is preparing students to be ready for college and ready for life. Senior Signing Day is special because all of our students and extended LEAD family get to be here and cheer on our seniors as they declare they are ready for the next step.”
“I will always remember the pride I felt at that moment and the lifelong pledge I took as a fifth grade student to live out the LEAD Ethos (to be committed, courageous, disciplined, self- reliant and serve others),” said LEAD Academy Senior Kayla Whitelow “Now we continue our lifelong pledge into the next chapter of our lives. Thank you all for becoming a part of my family. Without you, I wouldn’t have become the young lady standing before you today.”
