LEAD Public Schools Increases Graduation Rate to 93%

LEAD Public Schools, Nashville’s largest local charter network, is proud to announce an increase in its flagship high school’s graduation rate year over year – with particularly strong numbers among traditionally underserved students.

LEAD Academy High School increased its graduation rate to 93.3% in 2020, up from 88.4% in 2019. Students considered economically disadvantaged graduated at 95.9% while students of color (Black/Hispanic/Native American) graduated at 94.7%. LEAD Academy’s Limited English proficiency students graduated at 87%.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the LEAD Academy Class of 2020 who have endured so much in their senior year,” said LEAD Public Schools CEO Dwayne Tucker. “Despite a challenging senior year that included a tornado and a pandemic, these students persevered, graduating at higher rates than their peers across the state. This can be attributed to their hard work and their teachers’ dedication to seeing them succeed.”

LEAD Academy’s student body is diverse with 66% of students coming from a non-English language background and 11 different languages spoken. The majority of students will be the first in their family to attend college. We are proud to continue providing a high quality option to all Nashville students. LEAD was founded on the belief that all students deserve access to a great education that prepares them for the future — regardless of their zip code.

The graduation rate is calculated by the number of students in a LEAD Academy’s 9th grade cohort who graduate in four years.
