LEAD Public Schools

Both LEAD High Schools Named Tennessee Civics All-Star Schools

We are proud to announce that both LEAD Academy High School and LEAD Southeast High School were named by the state of Tennessee as United States Civic All-Star Schools!

All high school students in the state of Tennessee must take and pass a United States civics test to meet the social studies course requirement to earn a traditional diploma. Schools where every senior earning a regular diploma scores of 85 percent (85%) or higher on the United States Civic test are acknowledged by the department as a United States Civic All-Star School.

This prestigious designation recognizes schools that demonstrate excellence in civic education, which plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy democracy and developing engaged citizens. Only 56 out of over 700 high schools across Tennessee received this honor in 2024, highlighting our schools’ exceptional commitment to preparing students to be informed and active citizens in high school and beyond.

“This civics test is taken when our students are seniors and is part of our Government course. The government course and the civic test is important because it helps students understand how the government works and their role as citizens,” said Meghan Stowe, LEAD’s director of social studies. “It instills a sense of civic responsibility, encouraging active participation in the democratic process. The subject also fosters critical thinking by analyzing issues and diverse perspectives. Ultimately, civics empowers students to become informed, responsible members of their communities.”
