LEAD Academy Graduates Receive Laptops From Hendersonville Area Links

Last week, the Hendersonville Area Links donated laptops to ten LEAD Academy Class of 2023 graduates. This is the first year the organization has donated laptops to LEAD Academy students–a donation they’ve committed to doing annually.

“We are grateful for this generous donation from the Hendersonville Area Links organization,” said Dr. Tony Majors, principal at LEAD Academy. “This donation is not only an investment in our graduates, but also in our community. This gift ensures technology will not be a barrier for our graduates as they take the next step in their education by attending college.”

The Hendersonville Area Links is the local chapter of The Links, Incorporated, an international nonprofit committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. LEAD Public Schools first began its partnership with the Hendersonville Area Links in November 2022 when 15 LEAD Cameron students were selected to participate in the Learning Enhanced Academic Program (LEAP) Enrichment program.

“We are excited to purchase 10 laptops for deserving high school students,” said Sonya Dobbs, program chair for the Hendersonville Area Links. “One of our chapter goals is to address educational disparities among urban youth utilizing enhanced learning and technology resources. We do this through our umbrella project, Learning Enhanced Academic Program. LEAP is a fun virtual learning program that promotes student learning through unique virtual and in-person activities.”

The LEAD Academy graduates who received the laptops are Youana Abdelsayed (Middle Tennessee State University), Sumaya Abdi (Emory University), Breana Dora Quezada (Tennessee Tech University), Cherish Gordon (Nashville State), Arion Jacobs (Maryville College), Mariam Mahoud (Vanderbilt University), Kyia D. Mitchell (Tennessee Tech University), Wesliana Price (Tennessee State University), Kassandra Ramirez (University of Tennessee at Chattanooga), and Victavia Walls (Lipscomb University).
