LEAD Academy Students Turn the Tables on Traditional Parent-Teacher Conferences

LEAD Academy High School hosted the first in-person Student-Led Conferences with families since the pandemic earlier this month. At LEAD, students are responsible for heading up their own academic progress conferences, instead of parents and teachers leading the conversation.

“Student Led Conferences are one of the most impactful and important annual events that we have at Lead Academy High School,” said LEAD Academy Principal Tony Majors. “We are committed to helping our students grow and providing opportunities to model our Ethos and core values.”

Student Led Conferences are a chance for students to showcase their hard work, have meaningful conversations about their education, and allow families to spend time in students’ classrooms and talk with teachers.

Students exemplified the LEAD Ethos of self-reliance and discipline by developing and presenting their academic progress in their coursework.

“It takes courage to present the successes and challenges of your own educational performance and you must be self-reliant when preparing and rehearsing your presentations. I saw students and families leave with a sense of pride and accomplishment and they were thankful for the experience,” said Majors.

Student Led Conferences are supported by seminar teachers who create presentation templates, assist students in planning and provide feedback during practice presentations. Crew leaders help with parent outreach, event promotion, and set up their classrooms to host the conferences. The student support team and Family and Engagement Coordinators welcomed our families, passed out hats, magnets, backpacks and other swag items for all the participants.
