LEAD Welcomes Mayor Barry, Embarks on Service
LEAD Public Schools closed its annual LEAD University Summit on Friday with a morning dedicated to service projects across Nashville after opening remarks from Mayor Megan Barry.
Mayor Barry addressed more than 200 staff members first thing Friday morning on the importance of education for all students across the city. We were honored to hear from the mayor and cannot thank her enough for joining us. For demonstrating commitment, courage, discipline, self-reliance and for serving this city, all LEADers shoutout for Mayor Barry!
Throughout the morning, our staff members joined in content-area teams from across the network to volunteer at a host of Nashville-based non-profits including Second Harvest, Book ‘Em, YWCA, Meals on Wheels, The Next Door and Monroe Harding. Three other teams volunteered their time at Neely’s Bend, Brick Church and Cameron to continue prepping the buildings for the coming school year.
LEAD U Summit 2016 ended with a 2016-2017 staff photo, much-deserved teacher awards and a standing ovation for our custodial staff at Brick Church: A LEAD Public School ensured the building was in excellent condition every single day, for every single session of LEAD U. As one of our busses left Second Harvest on Friday morning to return to school, the back of it displayed a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve… you only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love and you can be that servant.”
To all of our staff who participated in LEAD University throughout this month, thank you. We can’t wait for school to start on Wednesday, August 3. All LEADers shoutout!
