#LEADStaffSpotlight: Regina Schumacher, LEAD Network Support Team
With almost a decade at LEAD Public Schools under her belt, Regina Schumacher is a true embodiment of the commitment tenet of our Ethos.
“My relationships with my colleagues, my students, and students’ families keep me coming back year after year,” said Schumacher. “With these close relationships, challenges become exciting, obstacles become puzzles to solve, and successes are just that much sweeter. I love my LEAD family.”
Schumacher first joined our team in 2014 as a school counselor at LEAD Cameron. She has since served in many other roles, including dean of culture, assistant principal of students, and currently as director of student support for all of LEAD’s six schools.
“Regina is a valuable resource for the LEAD network, bringing strong knowledge of social emotional learning, behavioral interventions, and community resources to the schools she serves,” said LEAD Chief Academic Officer Mary Laurens Minich. “A trusted advisor, she is sought out daily by school leaders. I am excited to see how Regina’s work continues to positively impact outcomes for students.”
Schumacher’s path to working in education wasn’t clear from the start, but that changed after enrolling in a college course that landed her in a middle school for a few hours a week.
“In that semester, I learned that middle schoolers were my people,” she said. “Teaching humanities and social studies in my early professional career made me fall even more in love with children, their families, schools, and being part of an amazing system that contributes to society in really special ways.”
In her current role as director of student support, Schumacher is dedicated to overseeing the ways LEAD supports our students outside of academics, through social emotional learning, counseling, and discipline.
Schumacher has many hopes for students at LEAD, but her foundational one is for them to “have the ability to choose their future paths and when confronted with potential barriers, to have the knowledge and skills to overcome them.”
We are proud to have LEADers like Regina Schumacher serving our students every day. If you’d like to nominate a LEAD staff member for a spotlight, please complete the nomination form here.
