Celebrating Our Heritage: LEAD Public Schools Honors Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15 – October 15

At LEAD Public Schools, we believe that celebrating diversity strengthens our entire community. This Hispanic Heritage Month, our network came alive with vibrant festivals, spirited competitions, and meaningful cultural exchanges that honored the rich contributions of Hispanic Americans while bringing our school families together.

From authentic food to spirited dance performances, each LEAD campus found unique ways to celebrate the heritage that shapes so many of our students, families, and staff members. Here are just a few ways our schools transformed learning into celebration:

  • LEAD Academy held a spirit week where students wore flag colors, jerseys, and traditional wear. They also brought cultural foods from home to share, including the recipes.
  • LEAD Cameron also hosted a spirit week and pep rally, along with an E-Lotería night where families joined for a lively game of Lotería (think Mexican Bingo with a twist!).
  • LEAD Neely’s Bend celebrated with a decorated treat trolley that visited classes, in addition to a special spirit week where students showed off their cultural attire. They also hosted families for a special showing of the movie Encanto.
  • LEAD Southeast Elementary students dressed up for Fashion Fridays with different Hispanic Heritage themes like jerseys and traditional wear. They also had parents come in to read bilingual story books or ones that highlighted an element of Hispanic culture.
  • During a special culture rally at LEAD Southeast Middle, which was held at the end of their spirit week, students and teachers learned about different countries’ cultures, as well as performed dances and songs.
    • Additionally, they had fun events sprinkled throughout the month, like a Hispanic Heritage Month activity board that they completed in Crew to earn a dress down pass. They also highlighted famous Hispanic icons and history moments during their morning student-led Pack Rally.
  • LEAD Southeast High hosted a festival for Hispanic Heritage Month. Students celebrated by creating crafts, playing games, singing karaoke, dressing up, and dancing.

These celebrations represent more than festive activities – they’re investments in our students’ cultural identity and academic success. By honoring Hispanic heritage, we’re reinforcing LEAD’s commitment to preparing scholars who are not only college and career ready, but also proud of their roots and respectful of all cultures.
