How LEAD Southeast Middle Is Using Data to Reinforce Their Mission Year Round
At LEAD Southeast Middle School, every minute matters. Leading up to Fall Break, all of their teachers, instructional managers, and assistant principals dove into interim assessment data to make mid-semester adjustments to improve student outcomes.
LEAD Public Schools performs interim assessments at all of its schools to measure how well students are grasping learning material in their classes. This data gives staff a pulse check on what kids have learned and highlights the opportunities that still exist to grow students.
“One of the first things we do is follow the bright spots,” said Tom Schoen, principal at LEAD Southeast Middle “At LEAD Southeast, one of our core values is celebration. We always celebrate wins, big and small. Our team starts off with what went right, and they are able to replicate that success with each other and, more importantly, students.”
When analyzing assessment data, teachers hone in on commonly missed standards and questions in order to plan specific reteaches for their students. It is in key moments like these where they move the needle towards their ultimate goal, their mission: LEAD Southeast Middle School is the place where every student will be prepared for high school by the end of eighth grade and know they belong to the pack.
