34 LEAD Students Earn the Seal of Biliteracy Award
LEAD Public Schools is proud to announce that 34 students earned the state of Tennessee’s Seal of Biliteracy Award for demonstrating proficiency and excellence in both English and another language.
Nine 12th graders and 25 8th graders earned the seal by taking on an additional assessment in the spring. The majority of students proved literacy in Spanish, but three earned the seal for Arabic and one earned the seal with French.
“We value and celebrate our multilingual students!” said Director of English Learners Erica Bundy.
Our multilingual students exemplify courage everyday. On the front door of a LEAD foreign language classroom reads a sign that states “ “Do you know what a foreign accent is? It’s a sign of bravery.”
“I believe it takes courage to bring your culture proudly into your school,” said Bundy. “I believe it takes courage to apply yourself in learning a second, or third, or in some cases this year a fourth language! It takes courage to take on an additional assessment, and it takes courage to believe in yourself enough to succeed.”
Congratulations to each of our Seal of Biliteracy Award recipients!
