Family Engagement at LEAD Cameron: The Family LEADership Team
The Family LEADership Team is a team of parents that meets on a monthly basis with school leaders, and they serve as a working group that provides input on school initiatives, as well as how the school can improve and better support students.
“The Family LEADership Team creates a space where families can ask questions, provide feedback, and form positive relationships with our administration,” said Marta Sanchez, the family and community engagement coordinator at LEAD Cameron. “We talk about serious topics but also have time for getting to know one another and spreading joy.”
Intentionally planned topics are slated for each meeting. The topics planned for this year’s Family LEADership Team meetings are:
- Anti-Bullying Awareness and Safe Scrolling
- How to Check Student Grades and Behavior
- Promoting Positive Teen Mental Health
- Independent Reading for Students Learning English
- U.S. Citizenship Resources and Support
- Promoting Healthy Relationships and Boundaries for Teens
- Gift Making for Teachers
- Summer Opportunities for Students
- Summer Safety
“At LEAD, we learn and grow. There is no better way to learn than from listening to our families and working together to ensure our students’ success.” –Marta Sanchez, Family and Community Engagement Coordinator, LEAD Cameron
About 8-15 families have consistently been represented at Family LEADership Team meetings this year, with 18 families present in September. About that meeting, Principal Briana Shelton said, “We discussed community safety and got to hear directly from families their concerns and ideas for ensuring our students are safe at home, on the bus, and at school.”
