Remote Learning Snapshot: LEAD Southeast Middle
LEAD Southeast Middle School students and staff collectively read nearly one million words in one week while learning remotely. The school is also proud to report that nearly 400 students are using the school’s Google Classroom program where staff posts daily morning announcements, reading challenges, math competitions and other resources.
The school set a goal for students and staff members to read 30 minutes each day at the beginning of the year. Students are encouraged to continue that practice and even increase their daily reading during the extended school closure.
Students track their progress by taking Accelerated Reader quizzes after they finish a book. The test notes the number of words in each book. Students can still take Accelerated Reader quizzes from home.
LSE Middle hit their goal of reading 200 million words for the year during Read Across America Week.
Special shoutout to student Mariam Manasa who read 183,805 words in just one week!
