LEAD Cameron Named a 2018 Reward School

Please join us in congratulating the students, staff members and families at LEAD Cameron for its second consecutive Reward School designation, honored as one of the 22 schools in Davidson County for outstanding academic excellence and growth for the 2017-2018 school year!

“What was once a school in the bottom 5 percent of academic achievement in the state, Cameron continues to be an incredible success story,” said CEO Dwayne Tucker. “We are proud of Cameron’s Reward School status two years in a row, a status that highlights our sustained growth and commitment to student success. This is an important accomplishment for our community and we could not be any more proud of our students, families and staff members.”

Founded in 2011 as Cameron College Prep, this is the third such designation for the school — in addition to last year, the school was also named a Reward School in the 2013-2014 school year. This is a testament to our mission-minded focus across our schools to ensure that all of our students are prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary to be ready for college and ready for life.

To be named a Reward School for middle schoolstudents are compared with their peers across the state in four categories: academic proficiency on the TNReady test, growth scores via the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS), chronic absenteeism and English language proficiency. To read the state’s news release, please visit this link.

ABOUT LEAD Public Schools: Founded in 2007 with a promise to do whatever it takes to enroll high school graduates in a four-year college, LEAD is now the city’s largest homegrown charter school network with more than 2,400 students across six schools. Earlier this year, LEAD announced that all schools scored a Level 4 or higher on the TVAAS, which means our students are learning faster and performing better than their peers across the state. In 2018, LEAD Academy graduated its fifth-consecutive class of students who earned 100 percent acceptance to college. Additionally, five out of the 49 teachers in the city announced as 2017-2018 Blue Ribbon Award winners for teaching excellence were part of our LEAD family.
